Dr. Joel Farthing first became interested in veterinary medicine while in high school. He began working on a south central Missouri beef cattle farm and at the practice of Dr. J.J. Tune, where he learned large and small animal medicine in a rural setting. After graduating from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003, he started working at a mixed animal practice in Lincoln and St. Charles counties. After six years in practice he partnered with his classmate at Mizzou, Dr. Lindsay, to found O’Fallon Veterinary Medical Center and continue the practice of Dr. James Oliver.
“I’m happy to be practicing at OVMC. It’s a wonderful opportunity and fulfillment of a dream to be able to practice veterinary medicine exactly the way I believe it should be—with careful attention to patient care and communication with pet owners, all while creating a positive work environment for myself and the O’Fallon Veterinary Medical Center staff.”
Dr. Farthing is married to his lovely wife, Skye, and enjoys spending his free time working on home improvement projects and his golf game, throwing discs for Reecee the Australian Cattle Dog to catch, and by participating in various sporting events. They have a 4-year old daughter named Arden, who is very proud of her little sister Della, born in March 2014.
Dr. Lindsay is a 2003 graduate of the University of Missouri, College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, he worked at a mixed animal practice in Bowling Green, Missouri for one and a half years. Since that time, he has worked with Dr. Farthing at Troy and Wentzville Veterinary Clinics, until heading to O’Fallon to start OVMC.
His wife, Leslie, and he have a four year old son named Adam and a baby son named Colin. Dr. Lindsay is an avid Cardinals and Mizzou fan and enjoys water sports. His dog Stella comes to work with him and can be seen each time the treat jar in the reception area is opened. She can be seen happily wandering around the O’Fallon Veterinary Medical Center daily.
Dr Krista Bowen
Dr. Krista Bowen dreamed of becoming a veterinarian at a young age. Inspired by James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small, she began pursuing this goal early in life. At the age of 10, she began regularly shadowing a small animal veterinarian in Galveston, Texas. Through high school and college, she continued working as a receptionist and technician at the same veterinary clinic. After graduation from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, she practiced at a mixed animal practice in Bowling Green, Missouri for seven years. She joined OVMC as an associate in June 2016.
Dr. Bowen has been married to her husband Kyle since December 2012. They have a daughter, Corinne, who was born in October of 2014. Their family also includes multiple pets including: Eowyn, an Australian shepherd; Evie, a Weimaraner; Pippen, Sam, Merry, Bilbo and Gandalf, all domestic shorthair cats; Smaug, a bearded dragon; and multiple fishes.
As a mom, much of her free time involves activities with Corinne. They enjoy frequent outings to the Zoo and other St. Louis attractions. In any spare time at home, she enjoys gardening and baking. She also enjoys hobby farming and raises a pig every Spring. Dr. Bowen is an avid football fan and watches the Aggies play every week during football season.
